What Is A Keyword?A keyword is like a heading in the Yellow Pages. Companies that pay for an ad in the Yellow Pages choose under which heading they want to be listed. The company takes all they do and narrow it down to the ONE heading -- think keyword -- that best describes them. After all, the heading in the Yellow Pages informs the reader about the industry or occupation of the listed company. It works pretty much the same way with keywords on the Internet. You write a web page. Now you have to decide under what heading you would like your web page to be listed in the Internet's "Yellow Pages" - the search engines. The keyword you choose would be the "search word" your web site will be listed for in the search engines. An example: If your site is about "Pets" you are more likely to choose the keyword "pet food" than "greeting cards". What do you do when you have chosen your keyword? Well, if you have chosen a relevant keyword you will probably find that the keyword is already mentioned several times in your text. The search engines will see this when they "visit" your site. And your site should appear when people go to the search engine and search for "pet food". That's all. Really quite simple, isn't it.. |
